Have any of you heard about the uproar regarding President Obama's speech to students? If not, here's the link for most of the speech:

Evidently, there is/was a huge uproar. There were parents who refused to let their kids watch it in school. Some people are calling it "propaganda" and an attempt to play "Big Brother" to American students.
Let me know what you all think! This will make for an interesting debate...

I think the people that are getting worked about about it are really the silent minority. It was a good speech with a great message, and I think it is absolutely fantastic that a president took the time to address such an important issue directly to the students.
I still haven't had time to research why on earth Chillicothe City Schools didn't show it!
My boys were disappointed (age 10) but my daughter wasn't surprised (age 17). They wanted to feel included with the rest of the nation.
We watched it at home that night and it made me think about the ways our culture is changing in terms of class definitions too . . . also, it's been a long time since I've heard a speech that has made me feel, well, patriotic . . .
Obama is doing the right thing--he recognizes that our problems are all intertwined in very complex ways and he knows he must address them all at once--tough job! But we must include our children and their education.
Yeah--too bad for the schools who didn't show it! This was the moment where government said to the kids:
"Hey, you can have the best teachers, the best parents, the best technology, but it is up to YOU to be responsible / accountable for your own actions."
Geez, you'd think the schools would want to get out that message of shared responsibility!
